Né en1955, il vit à Berlin.

 

Il travaille depuis 1986 sur la notion d'archive photographique. Il collectionne toutes sortes de photos trouvées ou récupérées qu'il assemble en tableaux selon des critères thématiques ou hétiques, qui sont autant d'allusions ironiques aux systèmes de classifications scientifiques. 

 

Pour sa première exposition personnelle en France, Joachim Schmid réalisera spécialement une installation sur le thème du cinéma.
