Somewhere between a magic show and a spiritual practice, fakirism, a mystical movement in which the penitence of the body is a means of elevation, provokes fascination and fear in the spectators. In a delightful metamorphosis of ancestral rituals, Je déterre de ma poitrine le tas de verre qui fut mon coeur (I dig up the pile of glass that used to be my heart from my chest) features a fakir dancing barefoot on a carpet made up of millions of sharp pieces of glass. This carpet becomes the dreamlike place of broken dreams and the dance becomes shamanic.
Tisha Vujicic's practice is at the crossroads of video and live performance. With the Brazilian performer Marcelo Nunes, he created a performance to echo the collective exhibition UN AUTRE MONDE /// DANS NOTRE MONDE, presented at Lieu-Commun, artist run space.
