Rodolphe Burger, erstwhile leader of Kat Onoma, is an unusual artist, guitarist and singer, and a leading figure in the French rock scene. A prolific composer, and travelling companion of Bashung and Françoise Hardy, he shows a boundless musical curiosity, and is involved in more and more collaborative efforts, from Doctor L. To James Blood Ulmer and Rachid Taha, by way of the writers Olivier Cadiot and Pierre Alferi. His three solo albums, all very different from one another ( Cheval-Mouvement, 1993, Meteor Show, 1999 and No Sport, 2008) reflect this outstanding openmindedness and capacity for renewal. No Sport , which is deliberately minimalist and straightforward, is intended as a return to source—a poetic rock with overtones of southern US blues.
