Art is not the Sunday of life, and it is under this statement that Christian Bernard has chosen to bring together at the Fondation espace écureuil several artists present in other venues of the event. Organized in one of the regular meeting points for the public of the Printemps de Septembre, this polygraphic exhibition is therefore intended to be a first crossroads, a partial introduction to the Printemps de Septembre event: an encounter with critically-minded artists who are committed to confronting reality.
"It is still common to hear that art should be more like this than like that, or at least different from what it is in the eyes of the prescribers. This is because the supply of art no longer coincides (if it ever did) with its hypothetical demand. And if exhibitions tend to fill up when it rains, it is because the attraction of good weather is stronger. The gain here is guaranteed, immediate and qualified. That of art, in terms of pleasure as well as intellectual or moral value, seems less certain and more difficult to obtain. If some artists continue to set the scene of life with distance or irony, others are committed to staging the theatre of its cruelty. Art is not there to be pretty, nor is the artist there to be beautiful. Whether or not history has an end (goal or term), unless it is lost, art cannot take its place" (Christian Bernard)
