Born in 1976 in Toulouse (France), he lives and works in Paris.
Armand Jalut is a painter. After experimenting with various media, he decided to go along with the rigours of the pictorial medium. His works develop an imagination with strange and at times disconcerting outlines in which different elements of contemporary imagery (from the press, from the Internet, and from personal viewpoints) rub shoulders with art history. His compositions are fragmentary, working like collages and outlining artificial situations which prohibit any form of immediate reading. The eye has to venture into a kind of visual enigma which is conveyed into the actual material of the picture. The textures of the subjects are often mixed with those of painting, and invite viewers to plunge as closely as possible into the pictorial space, in order to unravel these points of convergence, where form becomes muddled with the means of its appearance.
