The Bug
The Bug operates a fusion between ragga and electro that is as radical as it is unexpected. Accompanied by MC Ras B, he serves up a dark and uncompromising live show in the same vein as Rammellzee's performance.
Coming from the industrial scene of the 80s, Kevin Martin alias The Bug was at the origin of numerous projects including the essential and plethoric band God, and the no less essential duo Techno Animal. During his journey through the 90s, he worked with Bill Laswell, John Zorn, Iggy Pop, Kevin Shileds (My Bloody Valentine), Alec Empire and others. These multiple collaborations give an idea of the width of his musical horizon.
His solo project The Bug, hosted by Aphex Twin's label Rephlex, shows a completely different musical identity. The project's originality lies in the musician's fascination with dub and ragga. The Bug has invited some of the biggest names on the world reggae scene, such as Tikiman and Cutty Ranks, to lend their voices and radical, committed lyrics to his latest records. Deeply influenced by industrial music and techno, with a touch of dub, his music with its omnipresent bass is black and virulent. It emanates a dull violence counterbalanced by the MC's swaying flow.
