Pierrick Sorin - Pierre Bastien

09.27.02 - 10:30PM
Screening — École des beaux-arts de Toulouse

Pierre Bastien, a French musician based in Rotterdam, assembles fragile, magical and funny musical machines from bricks and mortar, which he uses as an orchestra.

Pierrick Sorin, a video artist from Nantes, uses self-filming to create falsely naive tragicomic installations with a caustic humour.

From their first meeting in 1995, Pierick Sorin perceived the closeness of their artistic worlds "through this feeling of fragility, through this humour linked to the derisory and to repetition, through, above all, this part of childhood that the small mechanisms awaken, in the rocking of movements and sounds". The ensuing collaboration is all the more successful in that the repetitive character of the former's music is in keeping with the principle of looped action to which the latter always resorts in his video installations.
