Born in 1971 in Fréjus (France), he lives in Paris and in Barcelona.
Mathieu Pernot's pictures in the series Implosions (2001) were taken in France's suburbs and outskirts (Mantes-la-Jolie, La Courneuve, Meaux,etc...) during controlled explosions and destructions of obsolete buildings and apartment blocks. For the photographer, the picture of the "decisive instant" of the building's collapse points to the fragility of a social system capable of discussing both the construction and destruction of its history. As part of the "Passerelles en Midi-Pyrénées" programme, the festival is presenting in Cahors one of his first photographic works, Tsiganes, a rigorous and honest approach to the life styles of nomadic peoples.
