Born in 1960 in Brooklyn (USA), he lives there.
The themes of most of African-American artist Lorna Simpson's works deal with the stereotypes whereby we learn about the world. In a concrete form, she analyses, in a both poetic and political way, the manner in which cultural constructs condition our concepts about the other, by focusing on issues such as the categorization and hierarchization of class, race, the body and gender.
