In Hans Op de Beeck's work, landscapes 'cultivated' by man acquire both a critical and mediative dimension. The video Gardenning (2001) is a black and white animation, a series of drawings representing imaginary gardens. In this narrative, the viewer is placed in the situation of a person observing the cycles of life from his window: birth, growth, reproduction and death.
