Born in 1950 in New York, he lives and works in Hougton (South Africa).
In his work as a photographer, Roger Ballen follows a singular path, which leads him from documentary to theatre. In his work, which he describes as "documentary fiction", Roger Ballen collaborates with a gallery of characters, men, women and children, black and white, who live on the fringes of South African society, which is becoming increasingly fragmented. Roger Ballen's photographs, exhibited for the first time in France, force us to question the notion of documentary photography.
Co-production SIpa Labo, France.
