Paul Smith

Video — Fondation Bemberg

Born in 1969, he lives and works in London.

Paul Smith, a graduate of the Royal College of Arts in London, has made photography his main mode of expression. Early on, he used it not for artistic purposes but as food work as a photographer for the army in Germany. On his return to England, he was granted a resident scholarship by the Duke of Edinburgh and took the opportunity to follow HRH Prince Philip and Pirnce Edward around the world. In most of his plays, he himself is the central character, cloned and multiplied by technological effects. The scenes played out are borrowed from collective culture, referring to common spaces, bar scenes, regimental scenes or even football matches, as for example in the series of photos he made with the singer Robbie Williams.
