Born in 1970 in Schauffhensen (Switzerland), he lives and works between Zürich (Switzerland), Paris and New York.
Olaf Breunings' works are extravagant stagings of the strange. They can take place in his studio, without an audience, or in front of spectators in the woods, in a harbour, a church tower, sometimes even in a gallery or a museum. The artist films on video or photographs, although the staging and the documentation often tend to merge.
"What is remarkable and surprisingly appealing about the atmospheres Breuning creates is that even as they evoke impending doom, they also recall the fantasy products of hip suburban kids. "[Bice Curger extracts, Olaf Breuning in Fresh Cream, Phaidon edition 2000]
