Born in 1964, he lives and works in London.
Between choreography, seriality, repetition, recycling and appropriation, Mark Leckey's work borrows from collective situations that are both banal and ritualised. His gaze is situated obliquely between the neutral and objective observation of these worlds [nightclubs, crowds, etc.] and another form of perception that is more physical, almost hallucinated. His editing and trickery work, based on this image bank, accompanies the "choreographies", the dance, running or performance movements, to better reflect the strangeness and standardisation of these different gestures.
