Born in 1964 in New York, he lives and works there.
Since the 1970s, Dara Birnbaum's video works have been among the most important contributions to the development of a contemporary discourse on art and television. In her installations and tapes, Birnbaum uses technology to subvert, deconstruct and critique the power of mass media images. Through various manipulations [repetitions, sampling, subtractions], the aim is to reveal the cultural, historical and ideological mythologies of the time, to constitute a research on memory, speed and identity.
