Born in 1960, he lives and works in Sierra Madre (USA).
A student of Paul McCarthy and Chris Burden, Martin Kersels creates installations and performances in which he frequently uses his colossal physique to accentuate the ridiculousness of situations and defuse the pathos often associated with performance. Thus he performs a striptease to a Hawaiian song, propels his friends into the air or repeatedly throws himself to the ground, thus reactivating Yves Klein's Leap into the void.
For the Printemps de Cahors, he proposes his Music Machine, a Vespa that he drives around the city singing a selection of kitschy hits in playback. The artist is also present in the exhibition organised by the Galerie Georges-Philippe et Nathalie Vallois.
